Miles Socha has been named executive editor, Europe, for WWD, effective Jan. 1. An integral member of WWD’s editorial team, Socha has broken countless stories on the designer world while leading the publication’s European news gathering efforts, overseeing reporters in bureaus in Paris, Milan and London, in addition to a network of correspondents stretching to the Middle East.
In his new role, Socha will widen WWD’s international coverage and scope of influence and continue to work closely with the publication’s senior editors in New York to develop innovative stories and strategies in both print and digital media.
Socha has been WWD’s Paris-based European editor since 2008. He moved to the French capital in 2000 as WWD’s Paris bureau chief. Before that, he was the newspaper’s deputy editor in New York, having joined from DNR, the company’s former men’s wear newspaper. He joined then-parent Fairchild Publications in 1995 after freelancing for the company’s various publications for several years in his native Canada.
In another development, Taylor Harris has been promoted to Eye editor for WWD, where she was serving as co-Eye editor. The Eye desk encompasses arts, culture, red carpet and society coverage. Harris will oversee all Eye content for WWD.com, WWD’s digital daily and the weekly print edition. She has and will continue to cover events such as the Met Costume Institute Ball and the CFDA Awards, as well as write features cross-platform.
Harris joined WWD in 2010 as an editorial assistant. She was appointed to the Eye desk in 2012, first as a reporter and promoted to co-editor in 2014.
