Chalk it up to the undying mystique of Marilyn Monroe. That’s what Linda Lord, president of Protec-Style Lingerie, says of her new retro undies called the Marilyn panty, inspired by the famous photo of Monroe standing on a subway grate, her pleater flying up to reveal her panties.
Lord, whose company is based in Quebec, came up with the idea of recreating the iconic panty style after meeting the president of Tri-Sis, an Ontario, Canada, firm with a patent for Mystex, a polyester microfiber. When she realized the ultrathin fabric was absorbent and stain-resistant, she saw the benefits of melding glamour and function for modern women. “I felt there was a need for something between a glamour garment and a disposable garment, and I couldn’t find anything on the market,” Lord recalls. “The woman who wears it must feel flattered by its comfort and durability.” Sizes run from petite to XL and will be expanded up to 4XL this year.
Lord is developing a distribution strategy that she hopes will include both specialty boutiques and pharmacies. For now, the Marilyn panty, which come in black, white and beige and retail for $21, is available only at Protecstylelingerie.com.
