MILAN — Massimo Piombo is launching a new project for his MP Massimo Piombo line.
The designer is teaming with important museums around the globe to create customized capsule collections, which will be exclusively available for a limited time at the art institutions.
Defining his brand as a “haute couture” project, which “aims to express the quintessential sensuality of beauty,” Piombo considers museums the most suitable locations to showcase his fashion project. “In my creations, which are definitely unisex, there is a deep emotional level, which I think is absolutely connected with the world of art,” he said.

The initiative, which will kick off in February at the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum, will include the unveiling of small capsule collections of coats, jackets and knits, defined by the luxurious materials and alluring color combinations Piombo is known for. “I want to offer small moments and gestures lasting a very short time,” the designer said.
For example, for his fall 2020 collection, Piombo selected textured interior design fabrics produced by an Austrian company, which is also a supplier to Buckingham Palace, as well as plush velvets featuring silk yarns making them iridescent and super soft.
“I think that doing couture means also employing special fabrics, which would be normally used for other things,” the designer said. The brand’s collections feature prices ranging from 1,800 euros to 5,000 euros for coats, the label’s most signature product.

The MP Massimo Piombo line, which is becoming a cult brand among both the fashion crowd and celebrities — Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton and British musician Robbie Williams are fans of the label — is available in around 100 stores worldwide including Beams in Japan and Braun in Hamburg, as well as online at Mr Porter.
Along with managing the independent MP Massimo Piombo luxury label, Piombo, who is men’s artistic director of Italian retailer OVS, designs the more affordable Piombo line. Backed by OVS, which controls 70 percent of the brand, the Piombo upper contemporary line is available at the label’s stores in Milan and Treviso, as well as at dedicated corners inside the Coin department units in Italy.
