NEW YORK — Gruppo Intermoda Ltd., a new importer and distributor here, plans to build its business on a diversified lineup of lingerie from Italy and France, ranging from sleek and tailored to saucy and wild.
The Italian lines of lingerie represented are Image, Ritratti and Papillon. French lines are Ravage and the licensed Nina Ricci collection. The firm also represents the licensed line of legwear and bodywear by Moschino.
Fran Nassberg, president and owner of Gruppo, pointed out her aim was to create “one-stop shopping” for buyers looking for fashion lingerie from Europe. The firm’s showroom is at 745 Fifth Ave., between East 57th and 58th Streets.
“We felt that if the looks were diversified enough and didn’t compete with each other, we could be successful,” she said. This is Nassberg’s first venture into the fashion business. She was formerly a real estate broker.
First-year sales for the firm are projected at $900,000, said Filip Grozea, vice president of sales and marketing. Deliveries for all of the lingerie lines are scheduled for early September, he said.
Grozea was formerly vice president of marketing in the U.S. for La Perla for seven years.
Ernest Meserole, marketing associate, said the Image line of tailored bras, panties and bodysuits is produced by a 45-year-old family-owned foundations and swimwear firm bearing the same name.
Wholesale prices for bodysuits start at $51.50 and go to $77. Underwire bras start at $22 and go to $44, and panties wholesale from $12 for thong-back styles to $25 for a bikini.
Fabrics include wool knits and blends of cotton and Lycra spandex; nylon and cashmere, and wool and cashmere; a blend of polyamide and elastane that has a silklike hand, and velvet of polyester and elastane.
The Ricci line features bras and panties of nylon and Lycra and embroidered nylon French net and tulle. It is manufactured by New Foundation, a foundations maker in Belgium.

Grozea described Ravage as the type of lingerie that “sets the scene for seduction.” The three-year-old brand — made by a French company of the same name — highlights bras, panties, garters and corsets in champagne satin with black lace and French net overlay. There also are lace-trimmed velvet looks of blends of acetate, polyamide, cotton, polyester and elastane.

The Papillon line, which is manufactured by Papillon, an Italian maker of intimate apparel and swimwear, is more in a classic vein and features blends of polyamide and elastane, and cotton and polyester. Colors are red, brown, aqua, beige, black and white. Wholesale prices for bra and panty sets start at $27.50 and go to $31.
