BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Aiming to offer her bohemian-chic wares to a wider audience, Nicole Richie has teamed up with QVC for The Nicole Richie Collection, set to debut on the home-shopping network’s “The Buzz on the Red Carpet — Live From L.A.” show on Feb. 24.
Ranging in price from $75 to $257, the line consists of a crinkled maxidress, a printed kimono jacket and a leather hobo bag, with more print-driven blouses, maxiskirts and dresses to follow.
“QVC is a well-oiled machine and to be in business with them is so exciting because it gives me an opportunity to design for a much broader range of women,” said Richie, who was at the Four Seasons Hotel Thursday, where she was shooting a segment on getting red-carpet-ready. “I wanted you to be able to walk into your closet with your eyes closed and pick something special.”
The $115 maxidress, whose design was inspired by Ossie Clark and Thea Porter, is a key piece for Richie, who has a similar version in her Winter Kate collection.
“It was important for me to do a version for QVC because it can be worn so many ways. I paid close attention to the seams to give a woman a nice shape, because a lot of maxidresses can feel tent-y,” said Richie.
For the $257 bag, Richie tried to come up with a day-to-night shape that holds everything.
“These details are all on purpose,” she said of the chevron seams placed to give the bag a streamlined shape and the zipper placed in the middle, eliminating the need to dig through the contents.
“Nicole represents a unique combination of designer and celebrity,” said Doug Howe, QVC’s executive vice president of merchandise, planning and sales. “She has a strong point of view about bohemian influence, from flowing shapes and a love of prints, which always resonate strongly with our customer.”
In addition to the Red Carpet show, Richie will appear in a one-hour show in September, with additional appearances in November and December.
“I want to connect with the women watching by letting them know that we are similar in many ways; I’m a mother of two and I work. We all want to feel relaxed on the inside but stylish on the outside. And that’s what I’m trying to provide.”
