Nordstrom Inc. is moving into Manhattan again, but this time with a unique retail concept devoted to philanthropy.
The Seattle-based upscale chain has a Rack outlet store operating in Union Square and continues to search for a full-line site in Manhattan. However, this latest venture will be a two-level, 11,137-square-foot “philanthropic-based store concept,” located at 350 West Broadway, according to Pamela Lopez, spokeswoman for Nordstrom.
“We are working on a merchandising strategy,” Lopez said. “All profits will go to nonprofit organizations. it’s really a chance to do something in a completely new way. It’s a completely new endeavor, not a mini-Nordstrom by any means. From the customers’ point of view, there will be no ties to Mordstrom. It’s not going to have Nordstrom in the name. No Nordstrom signing. No Nordstrom shopping bags. It will have an identity all its own.”
The concept, located between Broome and Grand Streets in a residential condominium in SoHo, is expected to open in the fall. A lease was signed, Lopez said. RFR realty LLC is the landlord.
