The British monarch may be stealing the worldwide royal spotlight, with preparations underway for the Queen’s 90th birthday tomorrow and adorable portraits of little George hitting the Internet, but the Swedish royal family has some exciting — and equally adorable — news of its own. Princess Sofia and her husband, Prince Carl Philip, welcomed a son on April 19th, Sweden’s royal palace announced.
“On Tuesday April 19 at 6.25 p.m., Princess Sofia gave birth to a son at Danderyd hospital in Stockholm,” Sweden’s royal palace said in a statement. “Both mother and child are in good health. Prince Carl Philip was present at the hospital throughout the birth.”
Princess Sofia, 31, married Prince Carl Philip on June 13th, 2015, and it was announced last October that they were expecting their first child. The sex of the baby was kept a surprise.
Prince Carl Philip, 36, is the only son of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia. He is fourth in line to the throne; his newborn son, yet to be publicly named, is fifth in the line of succession.
