HOMECOMING QUEEN: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made their first official appearance on home soil Monday following the couple’s tour of South East Asia last month. It’s also Kate and William’s first U.K. engagement since the scandal over the topless paparazzi images of Kate erupted in September. The couple visited the Honorable Society of the Middle Temple, one of the four ancient Inns of Court in central London, to meet with two recipients of a new scholarship, which has been created in the royals’ honor. The scholarships will provide two trainee lawyers with the funds to train to be barristers.
The duchess wore a maroon skirt suit by Paule Ka for the occasion, during which she met the recipients of the scholarship. There are already scholarships at the Middle Temple in the names of the late Queen Mother and Diana, Princess of Wales.
Monday’s appearance came ahead of a series of engagements for the royals in the north east of England this week. On Tuesday, the duke and duchess will meet the England soccer team at the opening of the Football Association’s new National Football Centre in Burton-upon-Trent. Meanwhile on Wednesday, the duchess will take on a further four engagements in the Tyne and Wear and Stockon-on-Tees area alone, as William will be attending the funeral of his childhood nanny, Olga Powell.
