If there’s one thing that China’s increasingly wealthy middle class loves to do, it’s shop. A brief but sunny respite from a winter cold snap in Nanjing, a city of more than seven million, saw crowds of mostly young shoppers descend on Xinjiekou, the former Chinese capital’s central business district. Much of the pedestrian traffic was drawn to Deji Plaza, a luxury mall that features such stores as Hermès, Prada and Louis Vuitton.
Leading fashion trends for this set included military jackets, black tights and leggings and coats in bright colors, often with pops of fur. Footwear was all about shearling boots, lace-up booties and the requisite high-top sneakers.
