TOP CHEF: Even if he insists he is “not a political person,” Karl Lagerfeld said he woke up at 6 a.m. Wednesday morning to find out the result of the American presidential election before picking up his pencil to do a sketch for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, a national German newspaper. “I couldn’t do it before; I’m superstitious,” he noted.
Lagerfeld’s illustration — which appeared on page 9 of Thursday’s edition of FAZ — depicts President Obama in a proud stance in front of the American flag, dressed in chef whites and hoisting a platter bearing a small cake in the shape of the White House. The designer colored the large-scale design using Shu Uemura makeup. Lagerfeld’s handwritten caption in German reads: “The Biggest Chef in the World: 10 X 5 Stars.”
“The subject was inspiring,” he shrugged.
