ATLANTA — A Gianni Versace shop will open at Phipps Plaza here on Saturday, May 14.
The store is owned by Philip Markey, who expects the 3,000-square-foot unit to top $2 million in sales the first year.
This is the second Versace franchise for Markey, whose first shop is in Houston’s Galleria. He plans to open a third boutique in September at Cherry Creek Mall in Denver.
The Atlanta store will carry Versace’s women’s and men’s apparel, accessories and home furnishings. It will also have the Versace Jeans Couture line through the summer to see if response is strong enough to support a separate shop.
The Phipps Plaza store is similar to the Versace boutiques in Paris and London and incorporates lots of gold and mahogany in its design.
Markey plans a gala this summer that will benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Versace is one of John’s favorite designers, and the singer has a home here.
