“I hate flowers!” Vladimir Karaleev declared. But the designer propagated his own breed of hybrid blooms by photographing multi-hued bouquets and then blowing up the images for prints. These appeared as stripes and segments on city shorts, dresses and tops, in both primary colors and black and white — with washed-out versions for delicate sheer overskirts and blouses. There was a drop-waist shift in oyster beige jersey that was covetable even for the office girl, and a long bias-cut dress in dusty pink that was slouchy and slinky. This print run was quite a step for someone who usually favors solids or tone-on-tones for complex, raw-edged garments.
