SHANGHAI — Vogue China toasted its 10th anniversary on Thursday night with a star-studded soiree in Shanghai gathering designers, models and a performance from Iggy Azalea.
But the evening wasn’t about nostalgia, at least not to the magazine’s editor Angelica Cheung.
“I don’t want to look back. I am already thinking about the projects that lie ahead,” said Cheung, editor in chief of the magazine since its launch. “This event will showcase a selection of our most iconic images from the last 10 years. Now, we’re in a very good position to push on further.”
A decade ago, China’s place on the international fashion stage was still to be yet to be seen, with a limited number of domestic designers and Chinese supermodels. The event consolidated its arrival at the glitzy venue in Shanghai, the mainland’s government-designated fashion capital.

A coterie of celebrities and supermodels who have graced the pages of Vogue China over the past decade attended the bash, including actress Li Bingbing, pop singer Chris Lee and models, including Karlie Kloss, Sasha Pivovarova and Anja Rubik. The guest list mimicked that of the magazine’s earlier anniversary bash held in Milan in September.
During the event, held at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre on Nanjing Road, guests were invited to view an immersive exhibition featuring some of most iconic images from the publication’s archives on floor-to-ceiling plasma screens.
Longtime collaborator and Vogue China cover-girl Pivovarova joined with famed choreographer Shen Wei to debut a contemporary dance performance at the pre-party dinner.
To mark the milestone, Vogue China launched a special 10th-anniversary special edition, featuring images from the world’s top fashion photographers such as Patrick Demarchelier, Mario Testino, Mario Sorrenti, David Sims, Craig McDean, Nick Knight, Inez and Vinoodh and Tim Walker, among others. Testino also shot the cover, which features 10 of the country’s hottest celebrities.
