POIGNANT POPPIES: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined Prince Harry to mark the opening of the “Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red” art installation, a tribute to the British and Commonwealth servicemen killed fighting in World War I, at the Tower of London on Tuesday.
An installation by the artist Paul Cummins, composed of ceramic poppies, has been created in the moat surrounding the tower.
Over the past month 120,000 poppies have been planted, and the final one will be set down on Nov. 11, Armistice Day. A total of 888,246 ceramic poppies will be part of the finished installation.
The duchess, who was dressed in a blue L.K. Bennett dress, planted poppies alongside Princes William and Harry.
