The Black Tux, an online tuxedo and suit rental company, has opened its first freestanding retail location in Santa Monica, Calif., across the street from its headquarters. It also operates a boutique inside The Tie Bar’s Chicago store that opened in April.
“Since our headquarters are located in Santa Monica, we felt like it made sense to have a physical showroom nearby where we can interact with our neighbors,” said Dan Wenhold, director of retail.
He said the brand is “looking at spaces in other cities” to open additional brick-and-mortar locations, but “don’t have anything confirmed just yet.
“We want to be able to bring The Black Tux showrooms to our customers around the country, to make it easy for them to see and try on our suits in person before placing an order,” Wenhold added. “The hope is that we’ll expand our physical presence beyond Santa Monica and Chicago.”
The 1,000-square-foot store will offer fit and style consultations by appointment and walk-ins can view the entire suit and accessories offering from the brand.
Andrew Blackmon, cofounder of The Black Tux said the new space “is a great physical extension of the brand and will allow us to meet and get feedback from our local customers every day. My hope is that it’ll be place for our neighbors to spend time with us and begin the process of getting ready for all the parties and events that life brings.”
The Black Tux, which was started in 2013, rents tuxedos and suits for $95 to $120 in addition to shirts, vests, shoes and other related items. Last fall, it closed on additional funding that brings the total raised to date to $40 million.
