Andre Iguodala has a new teammate. The Golden State Warriors star is working with Rochambeau on a capsule collection that will be introduced by the end of this year.
Laurence Chandler, cofounder of the streetwear-inspired brand with Josh Cooper, said he met the athlete six months ago during the first edition of New York Fashion Week: Men’s when Iguodala attended the brand’s first runway show.
“We’ve known who he was since early in his career and were fans of him as an athlete,” he said. But at the show, they realized they “had similar interests — we really connected.”
Eventually they decided to work together.
Chandler said the capsule will be developed over the next few months and will encompass a day in the life of Iguodala. It will include everything from looks that can be worn to work out in to leisure wear to items that can be worn at night — “or a performance travel kit,” Chandler said.
He said the Rochambeau team will travel to San Francisco to work with Iguodala to decide on fabrics and styles.
“I’ve had the luxury of building a relationship with Josh and Laurence for a long time,” Iguodala said. “We share so many interests beyond fashion and decided to bring our shared inspiration to light through a collection.”
Chandler said the brand has been approached by other athletes, rappers and flash-in-the-pan celebrities in the past, but Rochambeau was not interested. “We don’t want to align with someone just for the moment,” he said. But he described Iguodala as a quality person with an interest in fashion and he expects the association to be “a long-term thing. He gets it and is on the same level as us. He’s invested in this.”
