Tommy Bahama will commemorate the career of Boston Red Sox All-star first baseman David Ortiz by featuring him on its 2016 Collector’s Edition Series shirt. This season is expected to be his last in the league.
“We are so excited to be able to develop a special ‘Collector’s Edition’ shirt honoring David Ortiz’s amazing career,” said Doug Wood, chief executive officer of Tommy Bahama. “It’s projects like this one that have made our long-standing partnership with Major League Baseball so rewarding.”
Tommy Bahama will also host a special event with “Big Papi,” as Ortiz is known, during spring training at the Tommy Bahama restaurant and store in Naples, Fla. Additional events are also expected during the regular 2016 baseball season.
“I’m excited to announce the partnership with my guys at Tommy Bahama,” said Ortiz. “The event and these unique shirts are a great way to kick off my final season in the Major Leagues.”
The Tommy Bahama MLB “Collector’s Edition” Series shirts feature classic baseball images incorporated into custom-designed artwork that includes the player’s name, team logo, key stats and landmarks of his home team. Only a limited number of shirts are produced and each one is numbered.
The Ortiz shirt showcases the slugger hitting a home run out of Fenway Park. The Red Sox logo, Ortiz’s signature, the number 34 and his silhouette are all embroidered on a 100 percent silk print shirt. The back of the shirt features career highlights and awards against the backdrop of Fenway Park’s left field wall, known as the Green Monster. A woven label inside the collar shows the pose he strikes after each home run he hits. The shirt comes in a custom-designed garment bag.
The shirt retails for $250 and will be available in mid-March at tommybahama.com and some Tommy Bahama stores.
