In the past, Oscar de la Renta has held one annual bridal show — a big runway production with mega styling and lots of showmanship. Fall, however, marks a new direction for the designer: De la Renta opted to present a tight lineup over breakfast where editors and buyers could see the dresses up close and personal; such presentations will now be held twice a year. It was a refreshing change, one that was reflected in the gowns. An airy tulle ball gown, for instance, featured an illusion embroidered off-shoulder bodice and overlay, while a strapless style with a V-back and train came completely unadorned. Far from simple (the latter was still heavily corsetted), the collection felt accessible and as chic as ever.
