Backstage after his spring bridal show, Angel Sanchez said the inspiration for his romantic collection came from the materials — silk gazar, gauzy chiffon, perforated mikado and metallic lace — which he embellished with floral appliqués, 3-D beading, covered buttons and embroidery. A few looks skewed bohemian enough for a beachy destination wedding, such as a nude metallic cape gown with an open neckline. But the best styles embraced a soft modernity that drew from Sanchez’s background in architecture, including the show’s opener: a cutaway gown with a gauzy, layered bodice. “This is my favorite,” Sanchez said, motioning to a metallic lace jumpsuit with pockets and an architectural bodice. “It’s for a fashion girl who doesn’t want to dress too ‘typical bride.’”
