The Claire Pettibone bride is distinctive: soft, feminine and a touch bohemian. This season, the designer referenced nature — particularly the Art Nouveau illustrations of Czech artist Alphonse Mucha — and grouped her lineup into four categories corresponding to each season. In flowing, fluid mermaid and fit-and-flare silhouettes — with nary a princess skirt in sight — Pettibone embellished her slinky gowns with colorful embroidery, floral appliqués, hints of metallic threading and intricately patterned lace. The winter styles had the most sparkle and included a gown with a fully sequined metallic skirt under a fitted bodice with a sheer embroidered lace overlay. Elsewhere, sheer illusion mesh added sex appeal to plunging backs and long, demure sleeves.
