Mark Zunino kept his 2017 collection for Kleinfeld fresh with a subtle take on romance. Backstage, the designer said he was inspired by “the slow movement of a cloud of smoke” (translation: a seductive play on transparency). Zunino showed a range of styles, from an ethereal hand-draped chiffon gown to a bombshell embroidered romper. There were plenty of sexy, body-skimming dresses with crystal appliqués on nude-illusion bodices. Other standouts included a sweet floral-imprinted ballgown in a soft gray and a delicate Chantilly lace column with zip-front button accents. Zunino showed a flare for the dramatic with a few floating capes, but there were also plenty of the traditional mermaid gowns that brides crave. But the real showstopper was the frock with the caviar-beaded corset and hand-sewn feathers in soft pink tones that closed the show.
