When it comes to bridal at Vera Wang, mum’s usually the word. This season, there were collection notes that consisted, in their entirety, of the words “Young Love” printed on an 8.5-by-11-inch sheet of paper.
As it turned out, the fall collection required no introduction; it spoke volumes. It was a decidedly more delicate and romantic turn for Wang after her last couple of seasons, which touched upon dark drama and sexy boudoir themes. The new softness was conveyed with transparency, fluffy layers of tulle and romantic silhouettes, which featured smocked waists, cowl necks and macramé lace yokes. Off-the-shoulder motifs and exaggeratedly long, sheer sleeves that extended well past the fingers imbued the collection with an effortless sensuality and riffed on silhouettes seen on Wang’s recent spring runway. One of the collection’s standouts — a strapless, corseted silk crepe gown with long, sheer silk georgette sleeves that fell off the shoulder — juxtaposed Wang’s structured tailoring and her renewed focus on delicacy in a beautiful way.
