Making her catwalk comeback after an eight-year hiatus, French designer Fred Sathal opened the Paris couture season by keeping guests waiting for 50 minutes.

When the models eventually emerged, they were decked out in her signature embroidered creations, which ranged from sweatshirts thickly encrusted with spangles and loose threads to marble-dyed caftans with just a smattering of sequins.

Short dresses with lace skirts had a flapper vibe about them, but overall, there was a “greatest hits” feel to the lineup, giving little impression that Sathal has evolved during her time out of the spotlight.
