In Jonathan Saunders’ compelling collection, which subtly played with British design references, he pushed a stricter silhouette than in seasons past, done in those off-kilter hues he mixes so adroitly. Prints are a Saunders signature, and this time they evoked geometric upholstery fabrics, such as a diamond motif in jade green or deep brown on impeccably tailored skinny satin pants and dandyish tailored satin jackets. Water lily prints bloomed across high-necked silk shirtdresses, while pleated silk dresses were done in a sporty check, with black chiffon sleeves. Another sporty touch came in the form of cricket sweaters worn over silk dresses. It all showed that Saunders can clearly push his aesthetic forward while creating exciting, real-world clothes.
