Alessandra Facchinetti drums to her own beat with Uniqueness, her line made by Italy’s Pinko label. She doesn’t think about a specific theme or season but rather, as she put it at Saturday’s presentation, “my obsessions of the moment.” Therein laid the challenge with the lineup: there was no common thread to give it a meaningful impact. Facchinetti’s cues ranged from the Twenties, with brocadelike gold leaf laminations on a floor-length dress, to more urban looks like T-shirts with tattoo motifs teamed with polka-dot trousers. At the show, she also launched Cast Uniqueness, an online project featuring her personal thoughts on the design process, allowing others to submit their input. The idea of a user-generated collection is quite fascinating — as long as Facchinetti uses the Internet banter constructively.
