Last week Richard Chai was officially named creative director of Seattle outdoor brand Filson, and he kept the good news coming with the looks he showed for Richard Chai Love (women’s) and his eponymous men’s brand. The Love lineup had a lot of men’s wear influences — a boyfriend blazer and a gray coat with exaggerated exterior pockets — which he softened with printed dresses, slouchy trousers and a sheer pleated skirt. It made for an appealing, wearable mix suited for an urban customer who wants to add a rugged touch to her wardrobe.
Chai extended the theme into men’s, delivering well-constructed jackets while retaining playful volumes in the pants, i.e., a plaid, wide-legged wool suit. The outerwear was strong and included a bomber and a field jacket from his first capsule collection for Filson.
