Rhinestone cowgirls mingled with flashy mermaids in this high-energy collection. It was packed with enough sparkle to light up Las Vegas in a blackout.
The designer, who’s never been one for restraint, sent out barely-there dresses draped with fine, sparkly fringes or paved with gold spangles; and delicate gowns with appliqued flowers, sequins, and shiny beads. Among the standouts was a long dress with a cascade of blue and copper beading, and a shiny floor-length number paved with tiny gold beads.
It didn’t all work, however: Sparkling catsuits covered in fringe were tricky, while marabou feathers and shiny beading did not mingle well on skinny minidresses. The show was a mix of the designer’s couture pieces – all of which are made at his London atelier – and his rtw collection, which he’s started up again after a year’s hiatus.
