For his impressive sophomore effort, Chris Gelinas worked a charming “vintage futurism” vibe. “I was inspired by the idea of the late Fifties/early Sixties space race, which evolved into weightlessness,” the designer said at his presentation. He achieved the latter via interesting fabric choices including an ultralight “spacer” one (imagine a thin Neoprene without the squishiness) that he used for an elegant sheer white evening gown and a whimsical sweater hand screened with a portrait of a woman. The latter was shown with a cotton-and-silk twill cocoon coat and silk capri pants.
Gelinas’ manipulation of more traditional materials was equally noteworthy, especially the brushed mohair for a pencil skirt and hooded parka trimmed in raccoon fur.
