Female warriors — particularly Boudica, queen of the Celtic tribe that took on the Romans — informed Nicole Miller for fall. It was a compelling theme, underscored by the cool abstract motifs that served as the runway backdrop.

Miller’s fighters came in structured Neoprene tops, one such number teamed with a furry feather skirt, as well as in vests and skirts embroidered patchwork-style. At times, however, she veered off message, delivering the kind of familiar staples that played to her customer base, e.g., a little drapy dress here, a soft motorcycle jacket there. Throughout, she demonstrated a heavy Eighties touch, down to Scandal’s “Warrior” playing on the soundtrack.

Miller fared better when she took a stronger tough-girl approach. A fur vest layered over a quilted leather jacket and shown with skinny leather pants had just the right attitude worthy of a good fight.
