Wolfgang Joop said his fall collection was an “homage to the Dada movement,” which juxtaposed elements “that should not normally be brought together.” But what works in art does not always translate into fashion. The designer showed a potpourri of leopard-printed fur, striped knits and floral prints — sometimes in one look. There were plissé inserts on pin-striped skirts and dresses here, a plain black coat over a gold laminated jacket there. It all felt rather random.

Joop’s “collage” looks were more appealing, with trompe l’oeil effects shown on a number of hybrids such as a multicolored tweed jacket-cum-poncho. The trick also worked well on a perfecto in yellow-and-orange checks.
