Luisa Beccaria loves a floral theme — cold weather notwithstanding. Her fall collection blended diaphanous dresses with coats in men’s wear fabrics such as houndstooth or loden, though some of them were as lavishly embellished as ballgowns.
There was a folkloric feel to a cream feather motif stitched on a charcoal wool coat with a raised black fur collar, while the flowers embroidered on a petrol-blue velvet robe coat gave it the look of an heirloom piece. Sweater-and-circle-skirt combos and chiffon tea dresses conjured a vintage vibe — accentuated by the berets perched on some models’ heads. Directional it was not. But Beccaria and her daughter Lucilla, who codesigns the brand, have a firm handle on a retro-feminine look that has timeless appeal.
