Nicky and Simone Zimmermann had a few starting points for fall. One was “a sense of occasion,” as the duo thought back on the glamorous dinner parties their parents used to throw. “This collection is not about getting in the car and picking up the kids,” Nicky said with a laugh. Another was a rich color palette inspired by interior design from the Sixties.

Using a wool crepe fabric, the duo kept dress silhouettes long and fluid — with plenty of hardware and cutouts to sex things up, but those easy bohemian silhouettes were balanced with structural elements, such as metallic sateen suiting and floor-sweeping tailored wool coats. More casual looks included billowing turtleneck blouses, suede skirts, high-waisted lace bell-bottoms and paisley-printed day dresses, all of which recalled the quintessential garb of the decade. It’s too bad Coachella happens in spring instead of fall.
