A visit to China’s Suzhou Museum by architect I.M. Pei sparked Masha Ma’s geometry-driven fall collection. Yet the designer softened her strict, linear shapes with interesting fabric mixes and warm, earthy colors. The combination was particularly appealing on graphic T-shirts incorporating scraps of leather, knits and tulle.
Elsewhere, slim-fitting skirts and dresses boasted geometric cutouts and looked cool matched with extra-skinny leather leggings that stuck to the models like a second skin. Given the focus on modernity and architecture here, a series of flared long pants — though in tune with this season’s Seventies bonanza — seemed oddly out of place.
