Paule Ka is in flux in more ways than one. Still searching for a new creative director since founder Serge Cajfinger’s exit last July, the design team chose to jump forward a decade from its spring inspiration and channel the late Seventies this season. More specifically, they referenced looks worn by Meryl Streep in the movies “Kramer vs. Kramer” and “Manhattan.” (The Oscar-winning actress often wears Paule Ka designs on the red carpet.)

The result was a slimmer silhouette featuring trenchcoats and signature trapeze dresses with a focus on textured fabrics like heavy tweed — such as a cute rounded-collar black-and-white dress with outsize buttons and a punchy pink-and-gold brocade that, while loud, worked well on a belted trench.
