Alice Temperley took a cue from pirates, mermaids and nymphs for her fall collection, yielding an alluring lineup of feminine dresses, fluid evening gowns and boyish tailoring. She worked with a warm palette of mostly white, cream, lilac, lime and blue, with dashes of cinnamon and rust.
“She’s very elegant and as playful as before, but she’s just a bit naughtier this time,” the designer said. “She sort of tells the story of a very young and fresh mermaid who goes a little bit dark and pirate-like and then comes back as a mermaid in the end.”
Tattoos influenced the embroideries placed on jackets and flowy dresses. Outerwear came in wool or cashmere, with a military feel, some with appliqués on sleeves and on the back.
Frilly evening dresses, some festooned with sequins, emphasized fluid movement and lightness. The designer worked large purple blooms for jacquards — pixilating the oversized blooms in a flowy cocktail gown with bell sleeves.
Tailored corduroy suiting included a gray military-style cropped jacket with mother-of-pearl buttons over high-waisted trousers.
Temperley rounded the collection out with bridal looks: A romantic lineup of white chiffon gowns, some with hand-sewn sequin embellishments.
