Naturally for a textiles designer, fabrics were the focus of Zandra Rhodes’ collection, fashioned into bohemian silhouettes that recalled her Seventies heyday. “I wanted some of my classics out again,” said Rhodes at her presentation Saturday night.
The fabric that dominated the collection was a jacquard that Rhodes had developed in Malaysia, called songket, woven from polyester shot with Lurex. Among the looks was an off-the-shoulder top woven with an abstract gold pattern and paired with a maxiskirt, while a kaftanlike black dress was woven with gold flowers.
Rhodes’ showcase heigthened the Seventies mood, with models wearing turbans or bandanas posing on rugs woven with the designer’s signature patterns.
