Nanette Lepore’s mid-afternoon presentation at The Baccarat Hotel suited her fall theme to a “tea.” With her daughter Violet working the room in a black velvet minidress from the collection, Lepore explained that she was inspired by the traditional ceremonies surrounding the beverage. “I found that women used to have tea in their boudoirs in pajamas — or in nothing at all — and there were also outdoor tea parties set in forests,” she said.
The boudoir element was evident in a few looks that riffed on loungewear, such as pajamalike paisley-printed silk suiting or a sheer black lace ruffled blouse with a high neck that subtly recalled negligee. Tapestry motifs and rich textures were featured throughout the collection, particularly velvet, which Lepore used on a leopard-print coat and sequin-embroidered bomber.
All of it worked to convey her lush lineup with its moody, mystical vibe — which Lepore softened just a bit with the inclusion of a pair of black-spotted wool bouclé coats in lavender and pale blue.
