Nicole Miller’s fall collection was spurred by an image of a Scandinavian princess. “I was thinking about how to make winter brighter, happier,” she said, noting the lineup’s air of whimsy.
Setting out to “spoof” wintry Nordic style — with a cheeky digital 3-D trompe l’oeil sweater print, for instance — Miller ended up with an offering that also included nods to folklore, seen in colorful beading and embroidery, tassel prints and tons of ruffles.
Warmth and texture were key, with her ice queens stomping down the runway in coats made of tweed, metallic jacquard and Mongolian and fox fur. The Nordic style and folkloric influences worked well together to channel an eclectic vibe — all in the fun, flirty style that is true to the label’s youthful spirit.
