Rachel Antonoff didn’t just present her fall collection, she staged a Broadway musical performance. The cast of dancers from “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” danced to “A Secretary Is Not a Toy” while Ali Stroker sang vocals and Antonoff’s brother, Jack, played the part of the male secretary. It was all so delightfully fun.
Asked backstage how it all came together, Antonoff said she had always dreamed of working on a musical, and when her fall inspiration was “secretaries throughout time in films, and amazing working women,” the idea just gelled.
The collection, modeled by the dancers, was playfully charming. There was a Seventies face print with lips on a blouse, a fit-and-flare dress with embellished lipstick on the collar and cuffs, and a lipstick “test” frock that was literally a print of different shades of smudged lipstick. For those who shy away from quirky prints, Antonoff offered a pink wide-whale corduroy jumpsuit, color-block denim skirts and pants, and crisp white shirts with radiant buttons.
