Alice Archer is obsessed with flowers, and isn’t afraid to admit it. Following last season’s foray into sea life, the designer has returned to her beloved motif, and offered an arty collection inspired by the seductive works of the Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki, and his flower series.
Her flowers were particularly appealing on a lineup of silk kimono robes, digitally embroidered and sometimes overprinted, a technique Archer developed in her London studio. Paired with jeans, they oozed daytime chic.
This season’s standout item, however, was a Victorian high-neck gown with a full, frilled skirt in ivory tulle, which Archer layered on top of a sexy black slip dress.
While her signature romantic embellishments proved rather unbecoming bedfellows to some black leather looks, the collection overall impressed with personality and grace.
