Barbara Tfank’s fall collection is “fancy.” Not to be confused with fussy or frilly, but rather in the finest sense of the word: luxurious, innovative and elaborately embellished fabrics, impeccable fit and construction that all telegraph wealth and confidence. A standout was a simple navy sheath with elbow-length beaded balloon sleeves. Remember “ensembles?” Tfank’s fans love them, such as a black-and-silver-brocade coat over an easy silver-brocade dress. This season, nothing has made her happier than finding her dream patternmaker, “who has given these clothes such precision and construction — like built-in bustiers — that they now approach real couture. I’ve learned so much from him along the way,” she proudly admits.
