Yara Flinn, the young designer behind Nomia, is known for her sporty, utilitarian aesthetic. For fall, she pushed herself out of her comfort zone and elevated her collection — working with rich brocades, lush velvets and luxe satin — but in a relaxed and effortless way. “It’s how my girl would wear it, comfortable, simple,” Flinn stated backstage. She created some strong pieces such as a velvet cross-neckline gown, brocade pants paired with a utility fleece jacket, a velvet duster worn over a jumpsuit and a knit dress with slashed sleeves. It was a sporty take on evening, which is perfect for her downtown cool girls.
Unfortunately, Flinn showed her collection against a sculptural set with a live performance that was more distracting than complementary to the clothes.
