The fascinating paper artworks of Netherlands-based Peter Gentenaar served as the inspiration for Rie Yamagata’s fall lineup. The designer tried to re-create the lightness and organic feel of the sculptures with her feminine clothes, giving lightweight fabrics, such as silk chiffon and a Japanese charmeuse, a liquid effect. The result was breezy dresses and separates cut in flowing silhouettes and embellished with plissé details that enhanced their dynamic feel. Some of the asymmetric frocks were also splashed with a lively poppy pattern, adding a playful touch to the overall monochromatic lineup; elsewhere, a chubby hand-knitted wool coat exuded luxurious artisanal craftsmanship. Established as a knitwear brand six years ago, Rhié is evolving into a full ready-to-wear label defined by an effortless elegance infused with rational functionality.
