She quietly launched her label Roumel6 last spring, but this season, Denitza Skorcheva held her first New York Fashion Week presentation — and it was a strong sophomore collection. Inspired by women’s many moods, Skorcheva said, “To find your true self, you must break the mold. You will discover the beautiful coexistence of fragility, tenderness, strength, anger and love.” The outcome was an effortlessly elegant lineup suitable for women of all ages. Skorcheva believes that women should feel good and comfortable in her clothes. Many pieces can be worn from day to evening — case in point: a blue velvet elongated jacket and trousers paired with a lace bow blouse that easily transforms with a quick change of shoes. The designer updated the little black dress by manipulating asymmetrical cuts, creating a dress with an illusion that the strap is falling off, only to reveal a sexy lace bra. Other noteworthy pieces included a kimono-inspired tuxedo, draped silk dresses, a silk blouson polo with tie waist, asymmetrical ruffed skirts and voluminous sleeve blouses. Overall, Skorcheva struck the right balance between ease and sophistication.
