Prints, prints and more prints — in multiple layers and a combination of natural and synthetic fabrics — were the main message from Christian Wijnants for fall. The Belgian designer played a mix-and-match game with florals and paisleys in silks, synthetics and knits in a palette of rich and bright shades, pleating many of the fabrics for extra texture and contrast.

Burnt-orange shearling coats, patterned sweaters, floaty dresses and sheer ribbed or organza pants all came together for an overall effect that, while busy, was strangely relaxed, perhaps evocative of the Eastern philosophies represented by the imaginary journey to Persian territories Wijnants evoked as his inspiration, in continuity with his pre-fall offer but with a mostly darker color palette for fall.

Standouts included a mustard-yellow paisley pleated sundress open to the hip and worn over wide pants that had a fresh and simple charm with a touch of modernity.
