The feeling was laid-back yet feminine in New Zealander Maggie Hewitt’s third collection for her brand Maggie Marilyn, founded in 2015 and shortlisted for the 2017 LVMH Prize.

Hewitt ran with the ruffle, spreading it liberally across the collection, from outlining the spine on a coat to becoming an abstract cap sleeve on a simple white V-neck top, right down to offering multiple styling options on an over-long silk shirtdress. This feminine detail lent a romantic, vintage flair to a midi-length denim dress, a silk shirt-and-pants combo and crisp high-neck cotton shirts. On the other end of the spectrum, sporty ribbing or the masculine cut of straight trousers and tailored jackets gave the lineup cool-girl charm.

Other standouts were a reversible waterproof cotton-and-silk teddy, a roomy wool overcoat and its fraternal twin, the trenchcoat.
