Danish designer Christian Juul Nielsen continues to grow his Aknvas offering, creating fluid pieces that his girl or guy could share. For fall 2021 he toyed with pragmatic ideas for comfort, protection and layers, injecting Japanese materials with his trademark couture-like design touches.
The look: Scandinavian minimalism highlighted with luxury details.
Quote of note: “I called the collection another world,” Nielsen said, as a way to reflect on the clothing needed as the world moves past the COVID-19 pandemic.
Standout pieces: His and her’s golden-hued parkas; men’s wear striped shirting with bustier details for her and boxy shirting for him; oversize outerwear with a burgundy topcoat or a plaid trench for him and her; 3D boxy knits in baby blue; a bustier evening dress in a windbreaker textured fabric; his debut in accessories, with a few crafty crocheted bags.
The takeaway: Nielsen’s joyful color palette and smart design twists — like his red chunky knit parka — make for a fall collection full of well-priced layering — and potential hero — pieces.
