The first look of Sarah Staudinger’s fall collection look book features an oversize intarsia sweater with the motif of a home front and center. “It feels like something you’d find in your dad’s, or grandfather’s, closet,” Staudinger expressed over Zoom. The look was stylishly paired back with a vegan quilted leather miniskirt.
For Staud’s fall collection, she wanted to bring forth the comforts felt from the year’s most visited location: home. Prints of familiar interiors (traditional plaids, argyle, floral tapestries), cozy fabrics (vegan leather, soft sherpa, combo poplin-knits) and details from rudimentary, nostalgic games (tic-tac-toe, card games, puzzles, chess) were designed onto modern silhouettes.
The look: A balance of nostalgia, optimism, comfort and versatility, all of which are true to the Staud DNA, with a tension between playful and chic.
Quote of note: “Our homes over the last year have been our sanctuary, it’s kept us safe and had us reconnecting with simple emotions and certain things we likely would have forgotten about. In a lot of ways, that’s what we’re doing with this collection, honoring that,” Saudinger told WWD, adding, “In the beginning, it was a little scary, and boring, but I think it’s been a great awakening. This collection is about holding onto some of those elements that we found, we rediscovered.”
Standout pieces: Sophisticated vegan leather garb for everyday wear: a painter pant, camel-toned car coat atop a matching slipdress, the three-piece corset, blazer and trouser in forest green. Sherpa across categories — ready-to-wear that melds function, sport (accented with a rubberized Staud logo) and urban edge with vegan leather trim, new Astro mules and Bean bag. New takes on the brand’s signature Ace puffer coat; knit dressing with sex appeal and ease all-in-one. A new high-heel shoe with chess piece heel and genius handbag that doubles as a tic-tac-toe board, complete with magnetized game pieces.
The takeaway: Staudinger’s consistency in melding playful details into modern rtw and accessories was proven again in fall’s comforting and aspirational offering.
