Theophilio designer Edvin Thompson was inspired by the cult classic film “The Matrix” for his fall 2021 Solace collection. “It incited an introspective thought of finding the superhero in all of us. The possible thoughts of having to choose between the red pill and the blue pill was paramount,” Thompson said.
The look: Sensual, edgy and confident.
Quote of note: “A choice between revealing an unpleasant or otherwise life — changing truth, represented by the red pill and the remaining in blissful ignorance, represented by the blue pill. ‘The Matrix’ had an understanding that passages in life are a choice.”
Key looks: A black leather jacket with red and blue sleeves, an ode to the movie’s red and blue pill plot; a green and black turtleneck dress with an asymmetric cut; a new moon-shaped handbag that comes in different sizes; sunglasses in collaboration with designer Chris Habana. In addition to this collection, Thompson has also launched a capsule collection with the Black Fashion Fair.
The takeaway: Thompson continues to show his love for his Jamaican heritage through his clothing, as well as his pride in being a Black designer.
