Los Angeles designer Trina Turk took inspiration for fall from golden hour to banish the pandemic blues.
The look: Sunny resort ease with a hint of tailoring. “We definitely went more casual this year than in past falls. We maintained the color and print but tempered with neutral chocolate brown, wine, olive and navy, and some men’s wear fabrics,” the designer said.
Quote of note: “We’re starting to see a little bit of light. For example, we got our first reorder from a department store since the pandemic started, from Neiman Marcus,” Turk said of her business outlook. “It was for a midi caftan in the spring collection, and our Radiant dress, which is a slinky crepe fabric bias-cut dress. They are both unconstructed easy-to-wear and lounge-y, which is what we’re hearing from salespeople [consumers] are interested in.”
Standout pieces: Rainbow geo-print caftan; fringed plaid cape; blanket stripe robe cardigan; magenta tiger stripe faux fur coat; houndstooth suit with blazer and jogger pant; for men, glen plaid wrap-shorts worn with a black turtleneck sweater; black leather bomber jacket with floral motif.
Takeaway: Turk can always be counted on to put a happy face on fashion.
